To Rise Again

This is a dangerous game, all the same
To tread upon this ground
For a thousand voices, these same choices
Their lives they did confound

With a smirk of defiance, our alliance
Betrays a life once calm
But once arrayed, in ways dismayed
It’s offered open palm

An unknown taste of unknown haste
Emboldens ones impatience
But absent mending, hearts are bending
Subduing our elations

The truth is fraught with untamed thought
Aligned against our fates
Yet even still impatience will
Test all our mental states

Our tale must end, and with it send
Our hearts into a spin
When it’s past, we’ll ask at last
Will they rise again?
